The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain has created a new award for a significant contribution of medicines safety which was launched in February 2009.
Applications from all sectors and settings are welcome to apply either individually, as part of a small group or an organisation and it is open to non pharmacists.
The award will be presented annually to recognise a significant contribution to improving medicines safety in Great Britain. The focus will be on specific improvements in medicines safety with documented benefits for patients. The work should have been undertaken in the previous five years and can cover any part of the drug journey from development, prescribing, dispensing, administration, pharmacovigilance, commissioning services, storage or disposal. The intervention should have been evaluated and demonstrate and important contribution to improving patients safety, saving lives or reducing harm to patients, with the potential to be rolled out more widely.
Applications will be judged by an independent panel with expertise in medicines safety. The closing date for submissions is 2 April 2009 and the award will be made at the British Pharmaceutical Conference 2009.
