Welcome
The Edinburgh Clinical Research Facility (Edinburgh CRF) is firmly established at the heart of clinical research infrastructure in Edinburgh. From the initiation of the Wellcome Trust funded CRF on a single hospital base in 2001, Edinburgh’s CRF now operates across three sites: the Western General Hospital (WGH), the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (RIE), and the Royal Hospital for Sick Children (RHSC). The expanded CRF facilitates high quality research across a broad range of specialities and professional groups. All three sites share a highly successful management model that has been extended to embrace other local research units including the Brain Research Imaging Centre (BRIC) and the new Clinical Research Imaging Centre (CRIC).
In July 2011 Edinburgh CRF became the first hospital-based non-commercial clinical research unit in the UK to be accepted into the MHRA Phase1 Accreditation Scheme. This guarantees that Phase 1 and First in Human Clinical Trials of Investigational Medicinal Products will be conducted to the highest quality and safety standards, and ensures that Edinburgh CRF offers the ideal setting for close collaboration between industry, academia and the NHS.
